Campus Field Trips / Reward Trips Guidelines

  • PK, K, 1, 2, (maximum of 2 teacher initiated trips)

    - 2 field trips within Harlingen or 1 (one) within the Valley.
    - No reward trips for PK, K, 1, 2

    3, 4, 5, (maximum 2 teacher initiated trips)

    - Within Valley
    - Field trip and / or reward trip

    *GT trips (limit 2 within Valley)

    *Special Education (limit 2 within Valley)

  • -5th Grade All City Choir
    -Academic Olympics
    -Safety Patrol Picnic
    -Jump Rope for Heart
    -Marathon Kids
    -Traveling to middle school for concert, recruitment, campus visit
    -School initiated incentive trips such as Accelerated Reader, attendance, honor roll, etc.
    -Competition such as Chess Club, etc.
    -Clubs such as Student Council, etc.
    -5th Grade Symphony Concert

  • Academic Team Trips
    - 1 Trip within Valley
    Band / Choir
    - 1 out-of-Valley (must be competition)
    or
    - 1 within Valley competition or non-competition
    Athletics
    - Quarter System for all sports implemented 2008 - 2009 school year
    - Number games cut back
    Clubs and Organizations
    - 1 in-district trip
    Special Education
    - 2 trips within Valley

    Exceptions
    -Academic Competitive
    -Campus-Wide Incentive Trips (i.e. Attendance, Scholastic, Character)
    -Campus-Wide Instructional Initiative
    -Bands to play at one middle school football game at Boggus Stadium (after school or Saturday)
    -Trips for competitive purposes in academics and / or Band / Choir Programs will not be
    affected.
    -Requests from community organizations to perform (at principal discretion)
    -Marching bands at football games (after school day)
    -4 major concerts in each school year (sometimes performed at school and sometimes at
    another venue such as a church) (after school) i.e. public performances
    -Concerts (i.e. Christmas, Spring Concerts)
    -Requests from community organizations for band and choir to perform (at principal's discretion)

  • Athletics
    Out of Valley Trips
    -The athletic director, athletic coordinator, and head coach of sports will determine if the team or individual will benefit by the competition.
    -Exceptions to these out of Valley athletic trips are when the campus principal
    or designee, athletic coordinator, and athletic director approve these trips paid for
    exclusively by the sports school activity fund. All UIL rules and regulations will apply
    in all cases.

    Band / Choir Programs
    - End of year trip (paid by fundraising efforts) band / orchestra / choir
    (every fourth year out-of-state on a rotating schedule)

    Exceptions
    -Trips for competitive purposes in academics and / or Band / Choir Programs will not be
    affected.
    -Campus-wide Instructional Initiative
    -Recruitment to feeder middle schools band / orchestra / choir (usually during a class period)
    (at principal discretion)
    -Requests from community organizations to perform (at principal discretion)
    -Marching bands at football games (after school day)
